RELATING THE TEMPERATURE DEPENDENCE OF VISCOSITY TO THE CHEMICAL COMPOSITION OF CONTAINER GLASS

  M. Míka, G. F. Piepel

A new approach is developed for modeling the temperature and composition dependence of glass viscosity in the system Na2O-CaO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2. The temperature dependence is described using the equation log(log h) = A + B log T. The dependence of the coefficients A and B on chemical composition of the glass is expressed using reduced full-cubic mixture polynomials. The new approach is much simpler to develop and use than the previous approach, and it has the potential to yield better property-composition models. The new approach yields an improved model for the dependence of viscosity on composition in the Na2O-CaO-MgO-Al2O3-SiO2 glass system studied.
