STUDY OF BIOACTIVE GLASSES BY "IN VITRO" TESTS, PART 2 - EFFECT OF TRIS BUFFER ON TEST RESULTS

L. Jonášová, L. Rybaříková

The effect of the TRIS buffer on formation of the apatite surface layer was studied on glasses of the system Na2O-CaO-SiO2 both containing phosphorus and free of it. The changes in the specimen surfaces following exposure to model solutions were evaluated by X-ray diffraction analysis and IR spectroscopy. Concentrations of (PO4)3-, Ca2+ and SiO2 were determined in the extracts. The results showed that TRIS speeds up significantly the extraction of glasses and simultaneously formation of the hydroxyapatite layer on the glass surface.
