1. Software Requirements

As an Author using the system Editorial Manager (EM), you should have Adobe Acrobat Reader installed on your computer. You can download the free Adobe Acrobat Reader at the following address: 

http://www.adobe.com/products/acrobat/readstep2.html

 If you experience difficulty installing or utilizing this software, please contact your IT department for assistance. Adobe also offers a help database for their free Reader at this address: 

http://www.adobe.com/support/products/acrreader.html

A pop-up alert box is displayed if you are accessing the system with an unsupported browser.

2. Registering with the Journal’s EM Site

Before your first access to the system, you need to make the registration.  

Note:  If the Journal has made the registration for you and sent you an e-mail with your Username and Password, PLEASE DO NOT REGISTER AGAIN and directly Log In the system (see the chapter 3).

 Go to the Journal’s EM website at http://www.editorialmanager.com/ceram-silikaty .

 Click on ‘REGISTER’ link from the main navigation menu at the top of the screen. 

     

 

In the opened Pre-registration page enter your First Name, Last name and E-mail Address.
 

Note:  Enter your name using only characters available in English alphabet.
         (Please do not use characters ì, ¹, è, ø, ¾, ý, á, â, é, ë, ü, etc.)

  Then click ‘Continue >>‘ button.

2.1. Duplicate Registration Check

The system will check whether your e-mail address is not already registered in. If yes, the registration process will not continue and you will be given the option of receiving an e-mail containing the Username and Password to the e-mail address already registered in the system.

Click on ‘Yes’ if you think you might already be registered.  If you are sure that you are not already registered, click on ‘No’.  The system will open again the window, where you can change First Name, Last Name and E-mail Address.

  If no duplicate registration has been found, you will proceed to the second step, the Registration process.

  2.2. Registration Process

  The ‘Registration Page’ will be opened:
 

                   

Note:  Information fields marked with asterisks (*) are required.

  ·  'Personal Information' section:

 ·  You may enter your Middle Name, Title, Degree and Phone Number.

·  If available, you may enter your additional e-mail address separated by semicolon to decrease the chance that your SPAM filter will trap e-mails sent to you by the system. 

                             When you click the ‘Read more’ link, this warning will be displayed:

 

   
·  'Institution Related' section:

 ·  Please complete your institution full address including ZIP or Postal Code

  ·  Choose the name of your country from the roll up menu. (ISO 3166-1 Standard Country List).

  ·  If you would like the Journal to be able to select you as a Reviewer, you can set the Option ‘Available as a Reviewer?’ to ‘Yes’.

  ·  'Areas of Interest or Expertise' section: 

·  Please take the time to specify your particular area(s) of expertise by clicking the button 'Select Personal Classifications'. In new opened window you may choose 1-5 personal classifications matching you field of expertise(s). Classifications are included in a predetermined list of the Journal. To choose the classifications, check appropriate checkboxes and click Select –>. When your selected items appear in the right column, click 'Submit' button. 

 Chosen classifications now appear in the section 'Areas of Interest or Expertise':  

 ·  You may also enter up to five your Personal Keywords. This information will help to improve considerably our peer review process.

 

·  'Choose A User Name' section:

 ·  Please enter a preferred username. This information is required by the system.

When you have finished entering all your registration information, please click 'Continue >>' button at the bottom of the page.

If you did not enter any of required information, an ‘Error Noticewindow will appear:

 Once you have entered all required data, a ‘Registration Confirmation’ page will be opened, where you can to double-check entered information. Please be sure that your e-mail address is correctly spelled. 

 

 If all information is correct, click ‘Continue >>’ button to finish your registration process indicated by the confirmation window:  

 

 Please check your e-mail Inbox for a message confirming your successful registration and containing your username and password you need to log in the system. Please keep this information available for future reference.

 Thank you for your participation.

3. Logging In

Once you have received a notification e-mail containing your username and password, you can access the system.

 Go to the Journal’s EM website at http://www.editorialmanager.com/ceram-silikaty .

 From the main navigation menu at the top of the screen click the ‘LOGIN’ link. 

The Ceramics-Silikaty Log-In screen will be displayed:  

 Enter your username and password in the appropriate fields.  Click on the ‘Author Login’ button.

The ‘Author Main Menu’ window will be opened: 

 

Note:  If the Journal has made the registration for you and sent you an e-mail with your Username and Password you will be asked during your first access to the system to update your personal information. Please see previous chapter for the instruction.

The Menu contains 3 sections for New, Revised and Completed Submissions.

 The sections contain links also referred as Folders:

 ‘Submissions Sent Back to Author

 ‘Incomplete Submissions

 ‘Submissions Waiting for Author’s Approval’ and

 ‘Submissions Being Processed’.

 

The numerals in the brackets indicate the number of your manuscripts in each Folder.

 To submit new manuscript, please see the chapter 6 of this Tutorial.

4. Changing Your Password

 If you would like to change your Password, PLEASE DO NOT REGISTER AGAIN.

 Go to the Journal’s EM website at http://www.editorialmanager.com/ceram-silikaty .

 Log in the system.

 From the main navigation menu at the top of the screen click the ‘UPDATE MY INFORMATION’ link.

   

 In the opened ‘Update My Information’ page change your password in the section ‘Login Information’.

   

 In addition, you may update your information in other sections.

 Once you have made your changes, click on the ‘Submit’ button on the bottom of the page. The system will check if you have filled in all of the required fields – if you have not, the following warning will be displayed:

   

 If all required in formations have been entered, the confirmation window will appear:

                      

In addition, you will receive an e-mail message with your new password. Please keep this information available for future reference.

 5. Forgotten Password

 If you have forgotten your Password, PLEASE DO NOT REGISTER AGAIN.

 Go to the Journal’s EM website at http://www.editorialmanager.com/ceram-silikaty .

 From the main navigation menu at the top of the screen click the ‘LOGIN’ or ’UPDATE MY INFORMATION’ link. 

 In the ‘Login Window’ click the link Send Username/Password.

   

Enter your First Name, Last Name and E-mail Address in the opened ‘Account Finder’ screen.

   

The system will send you an e-mail message with your password. Please keep this information available for future reference.

6. Submitting Manuscript

6.1. Submitting New Manuscript

Note:  The journal Ceramic-Silikaty accepts papers processed mostly with Microsoft Word 2003. The system does not support Microsoft Office 2007 files. If you are using other word processing program, please inform the Editors (Jaroslav.Klouzek@vscht.cz).

 Go to the Journal’s EM website at http://www.editorialmanager.com/ceram-silikaty .

 From the main navigation menu at the top of the screen click the ‘LOGIN’ link.

 

 

 Enter your Username and Password in the ‘Log-In’ screen and click ‘Author Login’ button.

 

In the opened ‘Author Main Menu’ page click the Submit New Manuscript link.

    

 You will be prompted to submit all of the data that is associated with your manuscript. Some of this information is required; other parts are optional. Each submission step is outlined below.

 6.1.1. Select Article Type

The first step of the manuscript submission process is selecting an Article Type. This step is a required step in the submission process. Using the drop-down menu, select the Article Type that best describes your manuscript. Then click ‘Next’ to proceed.

 6.1.2. Enter Article Title

An Article Title is the required step in the submission process. Please type the Title of your manuscript in the text box. The length of the Title is limited up to 20 words. You may copy and paste the title from your Microsoft Word file, even if the formatting will be lost. The Title in the text box is used only for the system evidence and for Peer Review Process correspondence.

Click ‘Next’ to proceed to the next step.

 6.1.3. Add/Edit/Remove Authors

 The next step of the submission process is Add/Edit/Remove Authors. As you are submitting the Manuscript, you are supposed to be both the Corresponding Author and the First Author and your name is already added to the Authors' List at the bottom of this page. Please do not re-enter yourself in the list of authors.

 By clicking the button ‘Add Author’ please add the name of the First Author (if different from you). Other Authors do not need to be entered in the form.

 To Edit or Remove authors click the appropriate link next to the name in the Authors' List. The order of the authors may be changed by clicking the arrows.

 To change the Corresponding Author, first enter the name of the Corresponding Author in the First Name and Last Name textboxes and click the checkbox next to 'Please select if this is the corresponding author'.  If the person you entered is not registered with Editorial Manager, you will be unable to designate him/her as the Corresponding Author.  If this person is registered with Editorial Manager, you will be asked to enter his or her username and password.  However, please note that if you make this change, once you have finished submitting the manuscript, you will no longer be considered the Corresponding Author and will not be able to access the manuscript.  The new Corresponding Author will receive an e-mail when the PDF is built, asking them to log into EM to view and approve their submission before it can be sent to the Journal Office. 

 Click ‘Next’ to proceed.

 Asterisk * indicates a required field.

 6.1.4. Select Section/Category

The Section/Category list is used by the Author to indicate that his/her submission belongs to a particular ‘Section’ of the journal Ceramics-Silikaty.  This step is required.

 Click ‘Next’ to proceed.

 6.1.5. Submit Abstract

Submitting an Abstract is required for Submission. Enter the abstract of your manuscript into the text box below. The abstract may be cut and pasted from a Microsoft Word 2003 file even if the formatting will be lost. The text of the Abstract entered in the text box is used only for the system evidence and for peer review process correspondence.

  The length of the abstract should not exceed 200 words. If you have been shortened the abstract in the field below, please do not forget to do the same in the submitted manuscript.

 

 Click ‘Next’ to proceed.

 6.1.6. Enter Keywords

Entering the Keywords is required for submission. Please enter 3-5 Keywords separated by semicolons, e.g.: Glass fining; Glass furnace design; Compact melter; Controlled melting. Each individual keyword may be up to 35 characters in length.

Click ‘Next’ to proceed.

 6.1.7. Select Classifications

This required step. Classifications are included in a predetermined list of the Journal. The Editors can cross-reference your Manuscript Classifications with Personal Classifications of potential Reviewers.

 Please click 'Select Classifications' button.

 

In the opened window please choose up to five Classifications matching the manuscript topic.

By clicking on Expand All the full list will be unrolled. To choose up to five classifications, check appropriate checkboxes and click Select->. When your selected items appear in the right column, click 'Submit' button.

   

 Chosen classifications now appear in the section ‘Selected Classifications’:

 

 Click ‘Next’ to proceed.

6.1.8. Additional Information

The submission step called ‘Additional Information’ is required for Submission. Please respond to the following questions by typing "YES" or "NO" in the text fields.

 6.1.9. Enter Comments

This is optional step. Enter any comments you would like to send to the Editorial Office.  These comments will not appear in your manuscript. 

 Click ‘Next’ to proceed.

6.1.10. Suggest Reviewers

This is optional step. You may provide names and contact information for one or two review candidates. Use the fields below to give us contact information for each suggested reviewer, and please provide specific reasons for your suggestion in the comments box for each person. Please note that the Editors may not use your suggestions, but your help is appreciated and may speed up the selection of appropriate reviewers.

 

 When you are finished, you may click the ‘Add Reviewer’ button to submit additional Reviewer information.  Click the ‘Next’ button when you have finished providing Reviewer information and are ready to move on to the next step.

6.1.11. Oppose Reviewers

This is optional step. Please identify anyone who you would prefer not to review this submission.

 Fill in as much contact information as possible to allow us to identify the person in our records, and provide specific reasons (REQUIRED!) why each person could not review your Manuscript. Please note that Editors may need to use a reviewer that you identify here, but will try to accommodate author's wishes when they can.

 

 The Oppose Reviewers step is similar to the Request Reviewers step in that when you are finished, you may click the ‘Add Reviewer’ button to submit additional Oppose Reviewer Candidates.  Click the ‘Next’ button when you have finished providing Oppose Reviewer information.

 6.1.12. Attach Files

Please prepare your Microsoft Word file containing all items of the manuscript, i.e. text, tables and figures.  

Note:  The journal Ceramic-Silikaty accepts papers processed mostly with Microsoft Word 2003. The system does not support Microsoft Office 2007 files. If you are using other word processing program, please inform the Editors (Jaroslav.Klouzek@vscht.cz).

 

 In the field Description is typed "Manuscript".

 By using ’Browse’ button upload this file to appear in the field File name and click ‘Attach This File’.

 When the system is uploading the file, the following window should appear:

 Uploading the file may take several minutes. Maximum size of uploaded files is 30 MB.

Once the file is uploaded, it will appear in the table at the bottom of the page:

 Finally click ‘Next’ button.

 On the next screen you should see this window:

 

Click ‘Build PDF for my Approval’ button.

 6.1.13. Author PDF Approval

Next window is informing you about the building of the PDF file, which will be automatically sent to Editors. Before doing that, you should view and approve this file. You will also receive an automatic e-mail message “The PDF file of your manuscript has been built and may require your approval”.

 To view and approve the PDF file, click the Submissions Waiting for Author's Approval link.

 New window will be opened:

 If no links appear in the column 'Action' for your current submission, please wait a few minutes until the PDF file is available.

 When making Approval of your current submission, click firstly on View Submission link and download the PDF file to be sure that your manuscript remains free of any errors.

 If you need to make changes, click Edit Submission link, which will navigate you to the beginning of the Submission Form and you may fix or alter any entered information. You may move inside the Form quickly by clicking buttons in the menu on the left side of the screen. In addition, please use this link to remove and upload new Microsoft Word file. If you use this link before your approval of the PDF file, you will need to build it again.

 The Remove Submission link removes your submission from the system. Please use this link only if you want permanently remove this submission from the system.

 Finally click Approve Submission link and confirm your choice to finish the submission process. The system will confirm your submission and you will receive an automatic e-mail ‘Confirmation of your submission to the journal Ceramics-Silikaty’.

 In the ‘Author Main Menu’ page the submitted manuscript will be transferred to the folder Submission Being Processed:

When clicking this link, you will see the details of all of your manuscript being processed by the Journal.

 6.1.14. Terminating Submission Process

If you have started the submission process and you would like to finish it later, just LOG OUT from the system. When you will LOG IN again, you can find your Submission by clicking the link

6.1.15. Manuscript Sent Back to Author

 The Editors may after reading your manuscript send it back to you before starting the Peer Review Process due to the following reasons: 

·        Technical failure – missing parts of the manuscript, low artwork quality, etc. 

·        Poor English usage does not allow assessing the manuscript.

 The Returned Manuscript you may resubmit when making corresponding corrections in the ’Author Main menu’ by clicking the link Submission Sent Back to Author.

 

 

In the opened window you may click from the column ‘Action’ (expandable by clickingV):

 

View submission link to see the PDF file of your original submission,

View letter link to see the Editor’s letter informing you about the return of your original submission,

Edit Submission link to resubmit your original manuscript,

Approve Submission link to approve PDF file of your resubmitted manuscript,

Remove Submission link to remove your original submission permanently from the system,

Send E-mail link to inform Editors, how much time you need for your revision.

 If you need only to change the attached file, you can quickly go to the Attach File step within the submission form by clicking button in the menu appearing on the left side of the page:

 

 To change the text file, firstly remove the original file by clicking Remove link on the list at the bottom of the screen:

 Then attach new file and continue to approve the submission. (See the Chapter  6.1.12)

 Once the Editors will start the Peer Review process of your New Manuscript, you will receive an e-mail informing you that the Manuscript Number has been assigned to your Submission.

 Thanks for your New Manuscript submitted to the journal Ceramics-Silikaty.

6.2. Submitting Revised Manuscripts

 Once the Editors have sent the Manuscript back to you for the revison, you may access it from the ‘Author Main Menu’ in the folder Submissions Needing Revision:

 

 In the opened window you may click from the column ‘Action’ (expandable by clickingV):

 View submission link to see the PDF file of your original submission,

File Inventory link to download the source Microsoft Word file of the original manuscript ???????

Revise Submission link to make revision of your original submission,

Decline to Revise link to inform Editors that you have decided not to submit a Revised Manuscript. Your submission will be then removed from the Publication Sequence.

Send E-mail link to inform Editors, how much time you need for your revision.

 Once you have decided to make the revision of your original Manuscript, click Revise Submission link, which provides you an access to the ‘Submit Revised Manuscript’ form being very similar to the ‘Submit New Manuscript’ form (see Chapters 6.1.1. – 6.1.11). Please follow the instruction within the form.

  6.2.1. Respond to Reviewers

When submitting the Revised Manuscript, required step is the ‘Respond to Reviewers’.

 

 Please prepare the Microsoft Word file containing your responses to each Reviewers' and Editor's comments. To see these comments, click the View Decision Letter link. Please copy the content of the prepared Word file and paste it to the text box below. This file you will need also later, when uploading files to build the PDF of your Revised Manuscript.

Note:  The journal Ceramic-Silikaty accepts papers processed mostly with Microsoft Word 2003. The system does not support Microsoft Office 2007 files. If you are using other word processing program, please inform the Editors (Jaroslav.Klouzek@vscht.cz).

6.2.2. Attach Files

The List of Items below shows the file attached to your original submission or to previous revision(s). The checkboxes in the column Include in Revision please LEAVE UNCHECKED and continue by clicking ’Next’ button.

 In the new widow please do the following:

1.       Prepare your Microsoft Word file containing all items of the revised manuscript, i.e. text, tables and figures. From the roll-up menu Item choose '*Revised Manuscript'. By using ’Browse’ button upload this file to appear in the field File Name and click ‘Attach This File’ button.

2.       Prepare your Microsoft Word file containing your responses to each Reviewer and Editor Comments. From the roll-up menu Item choose '*Author's Response'. By using ’Browse’ button upload this file to appear in the field File Name and click ‘Attach This File’ button.

3.       If both Microsoft Word files appear in the 'Item List' below, click ’Next’ button at the bottom of the page.
