Relation between the free convective corrosion of SnO₂ specimens in borax melt at 1100 °C and the density of DC applied between SnO₂ and the melt was studied experimentally. The corrosion losses at and below the surface level of the melt increased linearly with time. In the case of cathodic connection of SnO₂ the corrosion rate increase linearly as the current density increased. In the case of anodic connection of SnO₂ the surface level corrosion rate decreased as the current density increased, while the rate of the sub-surface corrosion showed a rising trend as a result of turbulence cased by development of bubbles.
