The effect of the TRIS buffer on formation of the apatite surface layer was studied on glasses of the system Na₂O-CaO-SiO₂ both containing phosphorus and free of it. The changes in the specimen surfaces following exposure to model solutions were evaluated by X-ray diffraction analysis and IR spectroscopy. Concentrations of (PO₄)³⁻, Ca²⁺ and SiO₂ were determined in the extracts. The results showed that TRIS speeds up significantly the extraction of glasses and simultaneously formation of the hydroxyapatite layer on the glass surface.
