OPTICAL QUARTZ FIBRES WITH NON-TRADITIONAL DOPING AGENTS

This paper gives an up-to-date general survey of the possibilities and limits of doping high-silica preforms for optical fibres. It is focused on non-traditional fields and does not include doping of GeO₂, P₂O₅, B₂O₃ and fluorine. Its basic part is concentrated on alternative doping with aluminium oxide and on cooping rare earth elements. Such materials are perspective for telecoms as amplifiers, fiber lasers and as special fibers for sensors.
