UTILIZATION OF X-RAY DIFFRACTOMETRY FOR EXPLAINING THE DTA PEAKS IN THE CaO-SiO₂-CO₂-H₂O SYSTEM

After long-term exposure to CO₂ atmosphere a sample of 11 Å-tobermorite was submitted to DTA; the respective DTA curve showed a characteristic extensive exothermal peak at about 920 °C. The methods employed for explaining this anomaly were X-ray diffractometry combined with intermittent heating of the sample. The anomaly was found of result from very rapid formation of β-2CaO.SiO₂. The formation of wollastonite, pseudowollastonite, α-quartz and cristobalite takes place only during the further time course of reactions at higher temperatures.
