Dissolving of quartz glass in the following glass melts has been examined with the aim of establishing experimentally the corrosion mechanism of refractories with glass melts: 1. Na₂O-SiO₂ 2. Na₂O-CaO-SiO₂ 3. K₂O-PbO-SiO₂ 4. Na₂O-B₂O₃-SiO₂ 5. CaO-Al₂O₃-SiO₂ The dissolution rate under the conditions of free convection was measured for Na₂O-SiO₂ melts within the 1050-1250 °C temperature range, and for the other melts within the 1200-1500 °C temperature interval. Diffusion coefficients have been calculated for the Na₂O-SiO₂ melts and for the Na₂O-CaO-SiO₂ ones. The diffusion coefficients for the other glass melts could not be calculated as only insufficient amounts of data were available.
