DEPENDENCE OF ELECTRIC RESISTANCE OF VARIOUS GLASSES ON TEMPERATURE AND TENSION IN ABOVE-ROOM-TEMPERATURE REGIONS

The series of measurements performed on samples of eight glass types were aimed at obtaining new data on the behaviour of glass of various chemical compositions during passage of direct current at relatively very low temperatures. The specific resistance tests at temperatures from 20 to 105 °C have been made possible by the use of extremely thin samples, i.e. glass foils several micrometres in thickness. Pool’s equation for the dependence of electric resistance of glass on temperature and the electric field intensity inside the sample was also discussed. Activation energy values of the temperature dependence of specific resistance of the individual glasses were calculated on the basis of experimental determinations. An attempt was also made to compute a quantity which would express the change in resistance of the various types of glass in terms of voltage at constant temperature. This quantity has been given the name "non-linearity constant".
