          A CONTRIBUTION TO THE PHASE DIAGRAM OF THE SYSTEM ZnO-V₂O₅

          An isothermic section through the phase diagram for 720 °C was studied. With compositions having ZnO/V₂O ratios of 1.0 and 1.09 respectively, the phase composition was likewise followed at 550 °C. X-ray analysis has proved the existence of a single-phase region of solid solutions for compound Zn(VO₃)₂, as reported on in the study by Chaplina [3]. The results have further shown that the respective high-temperature modifications of Zn₂V₂O₇ and Zn₃(VO₄)₂ cannot be conserved by quenching, and that modifications α-Zn₃(VO₄)₂ and β-Zn₃(VO₁)₂ co-exist even at temperatures below 752 °C which was the bottom limit specified in the work by Brown and Hummel [2].  |
