Adsorption isotherms were determined of primary n-alcohols, ethylene glycol, n-butylamine and linear methyl siloxanes on cement clinker and clinker minerals using elution gas chromatography. Comparison of the isosteric heats computed with the condensation heats shows that all the liquids are adsorbed physically. The somewhat higher isosteric heat values are explained by the authors as being caused by formation of hydrogen bridges between the adsorbent and the adsorbate. Mutual comparisons of the intensifying efficiencies and adsorption of primary n-alcohols have proved indirectly that above all adsorption and lubricating properties are the necessary prerequisites of an efficient liquid grinding aid. Both the intensifying and the adsorption properties of linear methylsiloxanes depend, at least up to a certain molecular weight, on the number of siloxane groups in the chain.
