The loss in weight due to volatilization of the Eutal alkali-free glass was determined over the temperature range of 1150 - 1450 °C in a stream of dry and moist nitrogen (PH₂O = 20 kPa). The volatilization rate is strongly promoted by water vapour pressure. An analysis of the results indicates that the vapour pressure of HBO₂ at the melt surface is the decisive factor.
